Education: A Means of Transforming the World

Brief Description

I am trying to present education as a tool that can help us overcome many evils in the world; can make human welfare and progress more rapid; can become a panacea of virtues; and in this way  can be said to be a tool or weapon that can transform the whole world.

Introduction

"Service to man is service to God." How did Swamiji want the people of this great country to serve human beings, the poor and the oppressed? Is it just  charity or sympathy towards them? Perhaps his idea of human service was not only theoretical or philosophical. His ideas were more practical than mere being theoretical. A Chinese proverb says, "If you want to feed a man a day, give him a fish." But if you want to feed him a lifetime, teach him to catch fish. " Therefore, it is necessary to make educationally and financially backward strata of society financial- and technology-literate. They need to understand the difference between banks and non-banking financing companies. In this way they will be able to save their hard earned earnings from sudden loss. They have to understand the importance of insurance. They have to be technology-literate. So that they can take advantage of corruption-liberating technology.

Now the question arises that who would do it? Where would the money come from? This great country belongs to its citizens. But its wealth belongs to the rich and the corrupt! Today, corrupt people can loot millions of rupees, but society has no money to establish basic educational infrastructure! We still cannot provide electricity, telecommunication, educational facilities, etc. in to our countless villages. That is definitely tragic!

Definition of Education

Education may be called the cultivation of human civilization by sowing the seeds of knowledge in the human mind, fertilising it with tradition, lighting with experience, airing with philanthropy, and watering with ethics.

Its origin and development was to build the personality and to highlight the divine qualities present in humans.

Tool or weapon

The invention of tools or weapons was done by man to protect his security and his existence.

Even today the fundamental reason is the same. But due to lack of complete development of civilized humanity, it is being and have been used for the oppression and exploitation of the weak. Today, the prime objective of education seems to be a means of earning livelihood. But wealth earning is only a byproduct of education. The nature of man has always been competitive. That is why civil society has abandoned the other tools and made education the basis of competition. A society and a person is  the most developed or advanced whose intellectual ability is the most efficient and effective in this materialistic age.

Knowledge gained from education and the use of power received from weapons and misuse of it has been done by humans. And she is still in progress. Is this the fault of education? No, man abused all the good things and corrupted them. So, who will make us the right track? Our Majestic Tulsidas ji has said, "No religion is better than welfare: no sin is greater than hurting others."

The basic tenet of all the religions of the world is service to mankind. Some people or groups of people make a strange explanation for their selfish means. And using knowledge and weapons to spread terror and kill innocent, weak and unarmed people. Can  the same knowledge, tools and money not be used for creation rather than destruction? Can money and knowledge used in terror not be used for eradicating illiteracy, promoting education to the unemployed,  feeding the hungry, providing home to the homeless, and promoting other philanthropic activities? Yes, it can be done. We can do this. We have to use the power and force like Dadhichi Rishi, Mother Teresa, Danvir Karna, Baba Amte, et al. The power of your knowledge must be used for philanthropy and for the welfare of the world. Not to abuse them and to exploit them; and to spread panic.

Technology is the result of science-learning. It appears to be a demi-god. It is omniscient and omnipresent, e.g. Internet. It is also used for human service and corruption eradication. It should have more use. A very simple example: People who know the Internet can buy tickets, pay electricity bills, taxes, recharge mobile, can transfer money online to their relatives and friends as and when needed sitting at home. With its help you can also use many types of applications and avail many types of government and non-government services without the help of intermediaries, which reduces corruption. Similarly, in various countries, Direct Benefit Transfer is being provided directly to the people through direct benefit transfer, which has helped in reducing corruption in a broader scale. Internet is the ocean of knowledge today. Any information can be obtained very easily from the Internet. But in the absence of education and knowledge many people waste unnecessary time and energy doing these these works offline.

Based on the above discussion, I am daring to suggest a society_ of which I am a very small member ....

The purpose of education is to earn civilised humanity instead of earning money. It must informed and taught to the students from childhood. This will be possible only if education would not be the basis of competition for money acquisition.

• Students should be taught self-help and education through work- education and practical training instead of bookish education.

• It will increase employment opportunities; and the population growth rate must be minimized.

• The fundamental principle of religion, that is the human service must be firmly established. So that the so-called religious intolerance, religious frenzy and hatred could not flourish.

• Use of science and technology to be human service, development and creation, and 'science of destruction' to be discouraged with knowledge and logic.

• Use of science and technology will be done in philanthropic works like human welfare, eradication of inequality and eradication of corruption, etc.

• Establish, operate, and control cooperative arrangements in administration, business, and social media in modern times. By which education can be promoted and propagated; and the darkness of ignorance and demonic frenzy can be overcome.
